The technological war that the United States waged against China had Huawei as one of its first victims.

Since 2019, the Chinese telecommunications giant has faced sanctions that have succeeded in cutting off its access to US products and even technologies developed by US companies.

Ren Zhengfei, founder of Huawei , told how the company faced the harsh sanctions.

Huawei and its struggle to remain at the forefront

Zhengfei says he was always a fan of “Western technology,” which he admired even after founding Huawei .

“But suddenly, we were sanctioned, and they couldn’t provide us with components or tools, my mind went blank,” he said in a speech at a seminar on February 24, which was published by the South China Morning Post .

The 78-year-old man indicated that Huawei has managed to “stabilize” the production of circuit boards with components from domestic sources.

Huawei has replaced more than 13,000 components with local substitutes and has redesigned 4,000 circuit boards in the past three years, it said.

Will Huawei make its own ChatGPT?

On the popular ChatGPT , Zhengfei believes that OpenAI won’t be the only big player in AI.

“It’s not something we’re going to work on,” the transcript of the speech states. For the founder of Huawei , the need for more computing power that artificial intelligence will generate will serve to make Huawei products more in demand.
