A ‘live action’ Pokémon movie would be on its way to Netflix, according to information from ‘The Illuminerdi.’ This production could complement the series announced in the middle of the year.
In late July, according to Variety, I informed you that Netflix is working on a series of live-action of Pokémon, one of the most popular entertainment franchises. However, the platform’s efforts may go beyond episodes of content. According to The Illuminerdi, a source whose leak history has several hits on future productions, Netflix is also preparing a Pokémon movie.
This feature film, in addition, would also bet on live-action, so we are talking about projects that would complement each other. However, The Illuminerdi clarifies that Netflix’s production has no relationship with Detective Pikachu, the first live-action proposal of the franchise that was released in 2019. Thus, the service would propose a completely new story to have greater creative freedom. Of course, it is respecting the guidelines of The Pokémon Company.
Unfortunately, there are no further details on the film. Information about the series is also scarce. Variety noted that the project would be led by Joe Henderson, who will be responsible for the script and executive producer. We know Henderson for his participation in White Collar, Graceland, Almost Human, and, mainly, Lucifer.
The same report anticipated that the number of live-action of Pokemon is still in an early developmental stage, so we probably won’t have any official news anytime soon. Of course, the same delay will occur with the movie.
The potential of Pokémon in live-action productions
Bet on another film live-action of Pokémon makes sense, especially for the success of Detective Pikachu. While the Warner Bros. production didn’t promise much at first, it turned out to be very entertaining in the end. At the international box office, it also triumphed, earning just over $ 431 million. This figure allowed it to sneak into the most successful video game-based movies in history.
But while we wait for the supposed launch of both Netflix content, Pokémon fans will be able to entertain themselves with some of the new games that are on the way. On November 19, Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Pokémon Shimmering Pearl will debut for Nintendo Switch. Later, on January 28, 2022, Legends Pokémon: Arceus, which could mark a before and after for the franchise thanks to its open world.
