Netflix has renewed two series developed by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan that have met with great success: the anthological Monster.
whose first season was dedicated to Jeffrey Dahmer , will return for another two seasons. The Watcher has instead been renewed for a second season.
Dahmer – Monster: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer is currently the second most viewed English-language Netflix series afterStranger Things 4 , and will surpass one billion viewing hours in the coming weeks. We currently don’t know what other characters the series will look into in the coming seasons, but Netflix said it will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society.”
The plot of season 2 of The Watcher is equally a mystery, considering that the first season is loosely based on real events. Will it be a fictional continuation of those events, despite an ending that seems to preclude a season 2? Or will this also be an anthology of episodes similar to the one told in the first season?
“Viewers can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher ,” said Bela Bajaria , Head of Global TV, Netflix, adding that the team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, joined by Eric Newman for The Watcher , “has captured audiences from all over the world ”. Ryan Murphy’s “original voice” caused a sensation and “we are delighted to continue telling stories in the universes of Monster and The Watcher “.
