New perspective on Shinichiro Watanabe’s short

A new look at the short film A Girl Meets a Boy and a Robot written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop), was provided by the Niigata International Animation Film Festival .

The 20-minute short was screened at the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2022. It is part of TAISU a Chinese animated anthology, which tells four interconnected science fiction stories directed by directors from Japan, China and New Zealand.

A Girl Meets a Boy and a Robot

A girl with no memory wanders the ruins of the world that was, where the remnants of automated technology continue to function blindly even though their human masters are (almost) all gone. She comes across a friendly but equally forgetful robot and the two travel to the city, where they meet a brave young man living a feral existence. He seeks the Time Crystal to connect with the forgotten past, but unbeknownst to the trio of drifters, the truth is right there in their midst.

The voice actors are Kōichi Yamadera, Misaki Kuno and Yūma Uchida . Sun Bingbing is the executive producer, Satoru Aoki producing .

It will be screened on March 17 at the Niigata International Animation Film Festival , on the opening day together with Shuhei Morita ‘s Roots (Tsuru no Mai) . Both filmmakers will hold talks after the screenings.
