New York mayor-elect wants salary paid in Bitcoins

The new mayor of New York , Eric Adams, wants his first salaries to be paid with the famous  cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

The elected mayor of New York , Eric Adams , announced that he would welcome his first three paychecks in bitcoins .

The former police captain was chosen this week to take over when Mayor Bill de Blasio’s term ends in January.

Adams’ announcement represents a clear statement of political support for cryptocurrencies . Through his social networks, the elected mayor signaled his intention to make New York the “center of the cryptocurrency industry.”

Political support for bitcoin

“In New York we always go big, so I’ll take my first THREE bitcoin paychecks when I’m mayor,” Adams wrote. “NYC will be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing innovative industries! Waiting!”

Adams campaign spokesman Evan Thies later clarified that the mayor-elect would convert his salary into Bitcoin through an exchange. New York lacks a mechanism for issuing wages other than US dollars.

On the other hand, Miami Mayor Francis Suárez responded on Tuesday saying that he will receive his next paycheck in bitcoins.
