OPPO ‘s new assisted reality glasses were shown at the MWC 2023 held in Barcelona. It is still in prototype.
OPPO made an important demonstration of what will be its next smart glasses with assisted reality: the Air Glass 2 .
In the middle of the MWC 2023 in Barcelona , the company showed this prototype that is not yet mass-produced for the markets. Its promises are unique since it promises to assist people with visual problems.
What the Air Glass 2 brings
These assisted reality glasses, so called because they project information onto the user’s view without obstructing their vision or perception of the world around them, are suitable for people with nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and visual conditions, since they can adapt the waveguide in your sight.
Its main functions include being able to answer messages, teleprompter, voice calls, music playback, receive notifications, translation, weather updates, speech to text conversion and navigation.
They easily connect to cell phones through an app called Controller and Bluetooth. Through it we can configure so that it recognizes tactile movements thanks to a sensor in the frame. In the future, more interaction methods such as voice, gestures or head movement are expected.
The technology behind
Air Glass 2 includes a pair of microLED screens housed on the sides of the frames and output information with up to 1000 nits of brightness per eye.
It weighs just 38 grams, a fraction of most AR/VR headsets and actually looks like a normal pair of reading glasses.¨
The glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4100 platform, which is used in most high-end smartwatches. Its 200 mAh battery is rated for up to 3 hours of use and recharges via magnetic pins located on the back of the frames.
The OPPO Air Glass 2 is still in its concept stage, so it remains to be seen when OPPO will actually make the leap to a commercially available pair.
