Apple TV + has renewed Physical , the dark comedy series starring Rose Byrne , for a third season.
These are the statements of the creator, writer and executive producer Annie Weisman :
I am thrilled to be able to continue telling Sheila’s story with the creative collaboration of Rose Byrne and the rest of the incredible cast, all actors and crew.
Rose’s interpretation is breathtaking, is very funny and courageous and is our point of reference in the path of a series that talks about personal growth and transformation in Southern California of the 80s, with the glorious synth-pop, the sole and spandex.
The plot
Set in idyllic, fragile and sunny 1980s San Diego, “Physical” is a dark comedy series with half-hour episodes that follows the story of Sheila Rubin, a troubled and seemingly subdued housewife who supports the political aspirations of the brilliant and controversial husband. But inside the home, Sheila has a funny and slightly dark vision of her life, which she rarely lets show. She is also struggling with a series of personal demons related to her self-image… at least until she finds solace in the most unlikely of solutions: the world of aerobics.
Initially, she is only passionate about exercise itself, but Sheila’s real journey to emancipation begins when she discovers a way to combine this new passion with promising video cassette technology, thus starting a revolutionary business. The series tells the transformation from a suffocated and neglected housewife capable only of supporting her husband to a powerful and self-confident economic force, while Sheila gradually becomes a figure that today we take for granted, but who at the time was completely revolutionary: a lifecoach feminine.
The cast
In the cast of the series, created by Annie Weisman , we find Rose Byrne in the role of Sheila Rubin, Rory Scovel in the role of Danny Rubin, Dierdre Friel in the role of Greta, Della Saba in the role of Bunny, Lou Taylor Pucci in the role of Tyler, Paul Sparks as John Breem, Ashley Liao as Simone.
