The Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Margot Robbie is defunct. Or, rather, shipwrecked.
The news was given by Robbie herself, during an interview published by Vanity Fair . The actress said the idea was for a film with a female lead that had “a different story.” “We developed it for a while, a thousand years ago,” she said, “but they probably don’t want to do it.”
Christina Hodson , screenwriter of Birds of Prey and Bumblebee , worked on the script. The film was not going to be a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot , but a story set in the same universe as the Johnny Depp movies , centered around original characters.
For his part, Depp said during the trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard , that he has no intention of returning to play Jack Sparrow. However, last spring, after Depp won his case, rumors spread that Disney was considering bringing the pirate back into a sixth film in the saga . There hasn’t been any news on that front so far, but we can be sure of one thing: one way or another, the goose that lays the golden eggs that is the Pirates of the Caribbean saga will be resurrected.
