The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in fewer flights and delay-free travel, but things are changing.

While the number of flights recovers more and more, there is a big problem: the sky is not free.

The rise of private flights and space launches has taken its toll on those traveling to or from Florida .

very high numbers

Bloomberg reports that the state is experiencing the worst flight delays and cancellations in years due to this new reality.

The Florida branch of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reported 8,935 delays, accumulating 543 thousand minutes in March alone. This is the third highest figure since 2017.

Private flights have increased, explains Bloomberg . In March 2019, the Palm Beach Airport had 7,412 of these flights, this 2022, 12,239 were registered in that same month.

Added to this are more everyday rocket launches from Cape Canaveral with Elon Musk ‘s SpaceX as one of the most everyday users. These events force air traffic control to close hundreds of miles for security reasons.

“The combination of these factors leaves very little room for the system to absorb flight delays,” the FAA explained .
