Rebel Moon doesn’t have a release date yet, but fans can always count onZack Snyder to get some sneak peeks: the director is in fact back on his favorite social network, Vero, to share a photo from the backstage.
The image portrays the scenography of an austere corridor, which ends in a circular window through which a lot of light enters. In the upper part you can see the green screen cloths: evidently this setting will be completed in CGI. There are also four human figures, but they are far away and backlit, so we can’t figure out who they are. “Sorry for the incomplete nature of the shot,” Snyder comments , “but it’s still early days . ” In fact, filming finished about twenty days ago, so post-production has only just begun.
As we know, the film intends to reinterpret the premise of Akira Kurosawa ‘s The Seven Samurai in a science fiction version: on an agricultural planet, the locals are tired of submitting to the oppression of the armies of other worlds who are fighting there, and decide to venture into the galaxy to find warriors to defend villages. Snyder is making it for Netflix , like Army of the Dead . The protagonist is played by Sofia Boutella .

The synopsis
A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent called Balisarius . Desperate, the population sends a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help the colony fight off the invaders.

The screenplay
Snyder wrote the script with two trusted collaborators, Shay Hatten ( Army of the Dead ) and Kurt Johnstad ( 300 ). The story is by Snyder and Johnstad themselves .

The director hopes that Rebel Moon could become a franchise:
It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that it also becomes a great franchise, and a universe to build. Every corner needs to be painted. I’ve done some designing, I’m drawing all the time, and I’m cultivating the fertile ground for this world to be fully accomplished.

Snyder himself is producing the film with his wife Deborah Snyder . The other producers are Wesley Coller , Eric Newman and Sarah Bowen .
