Nicolas Cage prepares to sink his canines into what will likely be one of the tastiest roles of his career, that of Count Dracula in the horror comedy Renfield , centered on Bram Stoker ‘s vampire familiar . A role that for him was written in the stars for many reasons, not least the fact that, even in reality, Cage has a “goth” lifestyle. He told the Los Angeles Times himself , adding that he has a crow as a pet. Who takes it in bad words.
The crow’s name is Hoogan and he lives in a geodesic dome at his Las Vegas home:
He started making fun of me… It’s comical, at least it is for me. When I leave the room he says “Bye” and then “A-” [probably “asshole”, ie “asshole”, ed]. Crows are very intelligent. And I like the way they look, the look a la Edgar Allan Poe. I like the goth element. I am a goth.
From an idea of Robert Kirkman
Renfield is based on an original idea by Robert Kirkman , creator of The Walking Dead . The author described the film, during Kevin Smith ‘s Fatman Beyond podcast , as a story about “what a lousy job it is to be Dracula’s henchman, and” a hilarious and extremely violent comedy. ”
In the cast also Nicholas Hoult , in the role of the protagonist, and Awkwafina . Directs Chris McKay ( The War of Tomorrow ).
Ryan Ridley ( Community , Rick and Morty ) wrote the script. Samantha Nisenboim , McKay’s manufacturing partner, will executive produce the project. The film will be produced by the cinema section of Skybound Entertainment, Kirkman’s company. Producers will be Kirkman, David Alpert , Bryan Furst and Sean Furst .
