ROGUE SQUADRON: PATTY JENKINS-DIRECTED FILM POSTPONED

Rogue Squadron , the Star Wars film directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984).

Will not go into production next year as originally planned. The news was leaked a few days ago via the Big Screen Leaks Twitter account:

There is a #StarWars movie that will start shooting next year. It is not the film of Taika, Feige or Rogue Squadron …

The news was confirmed by THR.

According to their sources, the producers and the team of filmmakers at RS have concluded that the director’s commitments do not provide much time for the making of the film, the pre-production of which was due to start by the end of this year. No further details have been provided regarding Jenkins’ commitments, which we know are committed to Wonder Woman 3 (directing) and the Amazon spin-off (production) for Warner Bros. and Cleopatra for Paramount .

Recall that the filming of Wonder Woman 3 was initially planned after Squadron . At this point they could be anticipated.

Problems behind the scenes

Big Screen Leaks added today:

“Now that it’s been postponed, it’s a good time to mention that the film wasn’t just postponed due to Jenkins’ schedule, but that Rogue Squadron’s production isn’t doing well behind the scenes. He was never going to be ready for filming [planned for] next year. “

This has also been confirmed by the sources of Star Wars Net: Lucasfilm has decided to take the time to make sure the script is perfect before filming begins. Matthew Robinson’s script (The Invention of Lying, Edge of Tomorrow, and Love and Monsters) has undergone major rewrites since the film was announced.

At the moment Lucasfilm does not want to churn out Star Wars films annually , to be able to ensure that each project is properly developed, thus avoiding rushing the realization to respect the release date. For this reason, it is rumored that they are contemplating moving the release of Rogue Squadron to 2024 .

Old Republic

The December 23, 2023 slot will be used by another Star Wars project. Jordan Maison of Cinelinx revealed:

“Also, I heard that contracts were signed / spaces were allotted for shooting a movie in Pinewood just last week. Presumably they knew this delay was coming and they still have something ready to film. As for when they announce it… I have no idea. I hope soon, but I’m not holding my breath. “

Star Wars Net adds that Lucasfilm has been working underground on other projects, and it is rumored that the Old Republic film could replace Rogue Squadron . It is unclear whether this will be a canonical reimagining of the original story told in the Tales of the Jedi comics or the BioWare RPG.

In 2019 BuzzFeed reported that Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Altered Carbon, Alita: Battle Angel) had been commissioned to begin work on an Old Republic era project that could have become the first chapter of a trilogy.

We will keep you posted.
