People are becoming increasingly interested in folding phones and Samsung  has witnessed it: it had four times more sales in 2021 than in 2020.

The South Korean company has announced in a blog post that it sold four times more folding devices and it is thanks to the arrival on the market of its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 models .

These two products in particular, in their first month alone, exceeded “total cumulative sales of Samsung folding devices in 2020,” the company says.

No concrete numbers

Samsung does not precisely point to the number of units sold in 2021. Instead, it pointed to the fact that its increases were greater than predictions made by outside analysts, who suggested that total shipments of all folding phone manufacturers would reach 9 million in 2021.

External data ensures that Samsung can concentrate 88% of the world’s folding market.

These numbers are expected to multiply tenfold by 2023, with Samsung taking a smaller slice of the market as rival makers like Oppo and Huawei join in the foldable fun. Some also predicted for 2023: a foldable iPhone, which would really boost the segment.

Samsung concluded by noting that “compared to the Galaxy Note 20, it has seen a 150% increase in consumers who switched brands of smartphones for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. “
