Paramount Pictures has released a featurette dedicated to the new characters of Scream, the fifth chapter of the famous horror saga (the first without Wes Craven , who directed the previous films).
Ghostface will target Sam Carpenter ( Melissa Barrera ) and other Woodsboro boys, all linked to a character from the past, a sign that the killer’s goals have deep roots in the history of the franchise. Obviously they are all suspects, but one wonders if Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the same ones from Till Death Do Us Part ) don’t have some tricks up their sleeves to surprise fans. However, Sidney ( Neve Campbell ), Dewey ( David Arquette ) and Gale ( Courteney Cox ) will return to action to stop the killer.
Some time ago, the directors stated that the new film is a love letter to the original , and that the first trailer is full of red herrings . Also do not miss the spots of the past few days: you can see them here and here .
The US release is expected on January 14, 2022 , while the Italian one is not yet available; however, it is known that Eagle Pictures will handle the distribution. You will find the featurette below.
Cast includes Neve Campbell ( Sidney Prescott ), David Arquette ( Dewey Riley ), Courteney Cox ( Gale Weathers ), Melissa Barrera , Jenna Ortega , Jack Quaid , Mason Gooding , Dylan Minnette , Marley Shelton , Kyle Gallner , Jasmin Savoy Brown , Mikey Madison and Sonia Ammar .
The screenplay is the work of James Vanderbilt ( Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man ) and Guy Busick ( Til Death Do Us Part, Castle Rock ).
Scream in cinema and on TV
The saga so far has four cinematic chapters, all directed by Wes Craven . The scripts are almost all by Kevin Williamson (the creator of Dawson’s Creek ), apart from the third film, written by Ehren Kruger instead .
The franchise moved to the small screen in 2015, in an MTV series that lasted two seasons. A third season – actually unrelated to the previous two – aired in 2019 on VH1.
