Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 , the new chip designed to integrate Android phones with higher power that is coming, already has a release date.
It seems that we did not have to wait long after the presentation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for Qualcomm to decide to reveal its older brother. Although the aforementioned processor is already integrated into some new mobile devices, the US firm has already announced the official launch date for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 , the second generation of Qualcomm’s top of the range.
As reported by Gizmochina , the Snapdragon Summit will be the stage where this new SoC will be shown, focused on the top of mobile telephony in the world. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would obviously replace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that finally hit the market last December 2021 .
Interestingly, the company’s latest chip will arrive even sooner than its predecessors , with the closest example being the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 . This year’s Snapdragon Summit will take place between November 15 and 17 in Hawaii .
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the smartphones it would be on
Since it is a product merely designed to provide maximum power to high-end terminals that are coming this and next year, some teams have already begun to speculate that they would consider carrying one of these new SoCs inside. Although we still have to wait until November 15, 16 and 17 to know all its details, it is quite likely that the component will be included in the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series and other flagships from firms such as Xiaomi and OPPO .
In addition, the announcement of the presentation of this SoC comes after it was reported that Samsung would be thinking of only using Qualcomm processors in its new mobile devices, leaving aside its own Exynos for the best of its catalog so far this year. . In this way, the South Korean would no longer use its own chip in regional variants of its equipment and would focus clearly on integrating Snapdragon into its new mobiles.
Other upcoming Qualcomm products
The announcement of the presentation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 comes as soon as the two new Qualcomm SoCs for wearables were shown: the Snapdragon W5 and the Snapdragon W5+ , designed for smartwatches . These two additions and the future processor for high-end mobile telephony would be doubling the performance of their direct predecessors by continuing with the same line of improvements.
However, a detail that escapes understanding is the reason why Qualcomm decided to unveil its new processor ahead of time. One of the theories that are held is that the firm would have done it so that more manufacturers could advance the production of their new terminals using this chip before Christmas 2022. In December of last year, it was learned that both Motorola and Xiaomi were fighting to be the first firm to present the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor , so it is quite logical.
