Don’t call them movies
Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone point out that Paramount + projects aren’t movies, but neither are they South Park longform specials like those released on Comedy Central during the pandemic.
Parker said of the upcoming projects:
With Viacom, we realized we could make them as long or as short as we wanted. And then they ended up calling them movies. They are the ones who said we will give him 14 films in seven years. All I can say is that for me, personally, I am 52 years old, I have made three films in my life. So you do the math.
Stone added:
We’re trying to make what’s on Paramount + different than what’s elsewhere, so hour-long TV movies are our goal. We will make two TV movies every year. They’re going to be big, but they’re not quite cinematic in scale.
