Spotify reports that it is testing a short video format , similar to TikTok , as an additional source of music content.
TikTok’s short video vertical format is being replicated by many social media apps and broadcasts, from Instagram to Netflix . Now, Spotify is testing a new way to present music content to its users.
The Discover feature will present users with a vertical source of music videos where they can interact with ‘like’ or ‘dislike’. Those who have Spotify will be able to see an extra button between Home and Search .
According to Chris Messina told TechCrunch, the function was found in the compilation TestFlight of Spotify (a beta version for iOS), where a new button appears in the navigation bar, which leads to a section of short videos.
Not only that, @Spotify Discover is basically a pared down version of a TikTok-style feed of vertical music videos (likely using their canvas format) that you can like or skip.#NewSpotify pic.twitter.com/hpOEZ8v9bl

Function in development
“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a series of tests in an effort to improve our user experience ,” a Spotify spokesperson told TechCrunch . “Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learning.”
This new Spotify feature is still at an early stage, so it may delay its release to the public.
But the idea is not bad, the new vertical content format has served other platforms to discover new content and could be used by Spotify .
