Lucasfilm has already found a replacement for Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson , the writers who left the Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy .
Steven Knight , creator of Peaky Blinders , See and screenwriter of Locke and Eastern Promises , will write the new draft of the screenplay.
There are currently no plot details, but we may learn more next month at the Star Wars Celebration in London. The film is expected to be released on November 19, 2025, making it one of the first, if not the first Star Wars film to see the light since the sequel trilogy concluded in 2019. Filming is expected to begin in February 2024.
We don’t know why the two screenwriters made this decision, but Lindelof himself, speaking with Slashfilm at SXSW, questioned his involvement in the Star Wars universe :
I’ll just say that, for reasons I can’t go into on this Sunday morning, this day, the degree of difficulty is very, very, very high. If it can’t be awesome, it shouldn’t exist. That’s all I’m going to say, because [with Star Wars ] I have the same bond that you have, it’s the first movie I ever saw sitting on my dad’s lap, age four, May ’77. I think it’s possible that, sometimes, when you have such reverence and respect for something, you start working in the kitchen and realize, “Maybe I shouldn’t be doing the cooking. Maybe I should just eat.” I won’t add anything else.
