Nintendo has shared the final trailer for Super Mario Bros. , the first animated feature film in the franchise, produced by Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Minions).
Co-director Aaron Horvath explained that the film will tell how Mario became Super Mario.
As for the animation, it was created by Illumination Paris, based in Paris:
“The look of the animation we wanted to achieve is cartoonish and semi-realistic. There are moments of cartoonish fun, but it’s probably more of an action movie. We wanted it to feel like a big adventure movie, that there’s a lot at stake and that you can believe that these characters can die, so they’re not super-ragged and super-stretched, and we used a lot of volume on the characters to make them feel a little more realistic than what you might see in other animated films.”
Cast and crew:
The original voices are by: Chris Pratt (Mario); Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach); Charlie Day (Louis); Jack Black (Bowser); Keegan-Michael Key (Toad); Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong); Fred Armisen (Cranky Kong); Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek); Sebastian Maniscalco (Spike), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong) and surprise cameos ( Charles Martinet ).
Co-financed by Universal and Nintendo , the film is produced by Illumination ‘s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo ‘s Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto .
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic , who previously collaborated on the animated series Teen Titans Go! and the movie Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
The screenplay is the work of Matthew Fogel (The Lego Movie 2: A new adventure, Minions 2 – How Gru becomes very bad).
Super Mario Bros. , produced by Illumination Entertainment ( Despicable Me, Minions ), will be released in American and Italian theaters from April 5, 2023 .
