As we reported in January of 2022, Disney is developing a live-action remake of The Aristocats , and now Deadline reveals that Ahmir Khalib “Questlove” Thompson will be directing.

Questlove , drummer of The Roots , made his debut behind the camera with Summer of Soul , which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2022. The Aristocats thus represents his debut in fiction cinema.

Thompson is also an executive producer on the film, and will supervise the music. The screenplay was entrusted to Will Gluck and Keith Bunin : the latter wrote Onward for Pixar , while Gluck wrote, directed and produced the two Peter Rabbit films ; among his directing we also remember Easy Girl, Friends with Beds and Annie – Happiness is contagious .

The other executive producers are Tarik Trotter , Shawn Gee and Zarah Zohlman , on behalf of Two One Five Entertainment (a studio founded by The Roots ). The production is also handled by Gluck ‘s Olive Bridge .

The Aristocats

Twentieth Disney classic , the last one personally approved by Walt Disney before his death, The Aristocats was released in 1970 under the direction of Wolfgang Reitherman . It was also enormously successful in Italy, where it is the object of real veneration.

In Paris, an eccentric billionaire contemplates leaving her fabulous inheritance to a family of high-ranking cats. But the idea does not like at all to the perfidious butler of her that studies a plan to get rid of the sweet Duchess and her kittens. Their salvation will be the meeting with Romeo, a stray with a heart of gold who will become their guide through a thousand dangers.

The next live-action Disney
