The Batman | New spin-off about the villain Penguin is in development for HBO Max

Colin Farrell, who will play the character in Matt Reeves’ film, has reportedly been contacted about resuming the character.

Still far from debuting, the universe of “ The Batman ” already promises to increase. According to Deadline , Warner is developing a second spin-off focused on the villain Penguin , played in the film by Colin Farrell, for the streaming HBO Max.

In Batman mythology, Oswald Cobblepot – better known as Penguin – is one of its main antagonists, and has been portrayed by Danny DeVito in ” Batman Returns ” and by Robin Lord Taylor in the series ” Gotham “. Still without further details, the plot of the new series should follow the rise of Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, the Penguin, to the top of the criminal world in the city of Gotham, being described as something similar to “ Scarface ”. Farrell has reportedly been contacted about resuming the character.

This is the second spin-off of “The Batman” in development for HBO Max. The first, titled “ Gotham Central, ” is in the early stages of production, having recently recruited Joe Barton as the new showrunner.

No cast name for the series has yet been announced, and it’s unclear whether Robert Pattinson will make an appearance as Batman, or Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

“The Batman” is directed by Matt Reeves, and will portray Bruce Wayne in his second year as the Batman. There aren’t many details about the plot, but the film will bring together several classic villains. With recordings still paralyzed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the feature is scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2021.

The series in the universe of “The Batman” will be produced by Reeves, through 6th & Idaho , and Dylan Clark, in association with Warner Bros. Television .

The film opens on March 4, 2022, with the series still unpredictable.
