Season 6 of The Expanse will be the third released by Amazon after Syfy’s cancellation. At NYCC, the entire cast – of course minus Cas Anvar , whose Alex Kamal was busted at the end of season 4 over sexual abuse allegations against the actor – turned up for a panel on the series. Present were Dominique Tipper (Naomi Nagata), Steven Strait (James Holden), Wes Chatham (Amos Burton), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Chrisjen Avasarala), Nadine Nicole (Clarissa Mao) and Cara Gee (Camina Drummer). With them the showrunner Naren Shankar and the authors of the original novels,Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham (known as James SA Corey ).Tipper asked the writers how they felt now that the series is drawing to a close:
It has been a long project and it is gratifying to see how it has succeeded. I get a lump in my throat. I think that says a lot about where we have been and where we will go.
Only six episodes, but a big ending
The sixth season will consist of just six episodes. The first and sixth were shot together, and the sixth will be longer than the series average: 65 minutes. Shankar explains:
We have always known we wanted to finish big. A lot of things happen in that episode. And, by shooting it soon, we got to complete all the visual effects well.
The Expanse’s final season will arrive in full on December 10th on Amazon Prime Video.
