The Fabelmans is inspired by the true story of Steven Spielberg, that of his childhood in Arizona in the late 50s and early 60s. The era in which the young Spielberg discovered his great passion for cinema and directing, starting to direct Super 8 films with the help of his father and his friends.
Given the personal nature of the project, Spielberg signed the script in person together with Tony Kushner , who has already written for him Munich , Lincoln , West Side Story and the unrealized The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara . It’s the first time since AI , twenty-one years ago, that Spielberg has written a film.
The cast
Paul Dano plays the protagonist’s father, inspired by the figure of Arnold Spielberg , an electronic engineer who died in 2020 at the age of 103. Michelle Williams is the mother, while Seth Rogen is the favorite uncle.
Also starring Judd Hirsch ( Taxi , The Goldbergs ), Jeannie Berlin ( Succession , Hunters ), Robin Bartlett ( American Horror Story ), and Jonathan Hadary ( Veep ). The protagonist, aspiring director Sammy, is played by Gabriel LaBelle .
Alongside them also David Lynch , Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord, Birdie Borria, Alina Brace, Sophia Kopera, Oakes Fegley, Sam Rechner, Chloe East, Jonathan Hadary and Isabelle Kusman .
The release in Italian theaters is scheduled for December 22nd.
