The new film from the director of Calvary and Happy Hour Cop , John Michael McDonagh . Based on a novel by Lawrence Osborne , the film centers on a couple who, on their way to a party in a small town in the Moroccan desert, accidentally run over a person. Here is the trailer.
McDonagh also wrote the screenplay for The Forgiven . The plot, as mentioned, centers on wealthy Londoners David (Ralph Fiennes) and Jo Henninger (Jessica Chastain), who, as they are on their way to a party in the middle of the Moroccan desert, overwhelm a local teenager. Arriving at the villa after the party has already begun, the couple try to cover up the incident with the help of the local police. But when the boy’s father arrives in search of justice, the stage is set for a culture clash in which David and Jo must come to terms with their grave deed and its devastating consequences.
The rest of the cast includes Matt Smith, Saïd Taghmaoui, Abbey Lee, Mourad Zaoui, Caleb Landry Jones, Ismael Kanater and Christopher Abbott . McDonagh produces alongside partner Elizabeth Eves through their House of Un-American Activities label. The Forgiven is produced by Brookstreet Pictures, LipSync Productions, Film4, BFI, Head Gear, Metrol Technology and Assemble Media. Universal Pictures will distribute it in several international territories. The film will be released in the USA on July 1st.
