Lionsgate has released the first teaser of the Hunger Games prequel based on Suzanne Collins ‘ Ballad of the Nightingale and the Serpent .
This is the same video shown during CinemaCon, which does not contain scenes from the film and ends with the sentence “ The world will discover… who is a nightingale… and who is a snake “.
Recall that the film will arrive in American theaters on November 17, 2023 .
Tom Blyth , seen in Billy the Kid and The Gilded Age , will play the young Coriolanus Snow , previously played by Donald Sutherland . The cast will also find Rachel Zegler , star of West Side Story and Disney ‘s live-action version of Snow White , in the role of Lucy Gray Baird .
The plot
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be set 64 years before the original events. In the center we will find Coriolanus Snow, who many years later will become the despotic president of Panem. Here he will be a young man chosen to mentor a girl from District 12 (the same as Katniss) at the 10th Hunger Games. Here is the synopsis of the novel:
It is the morning of the harvest that inaugurates the 10th edition of the Hunger Games. In Capitol City, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing himself carefully: he has been called to participate in the Games as a mentor and knows that this could be his only chance to access his glory. The once mighty House of Snow is in its darkest hour. The fate of the Snow’s good name is in the hands of Coriolanus: the only, slight, possibility of bringing it back to its former glory lies in the boy’s ability to be more charming, more persuasive and more cunning than his opponents and thus lead his tribute to victory. On paper, however, everything is against him: not only has he been assigned the weakest district, 12, but the female of the tribute couple has been chosen by lot. The fates of the two young people, at this point, are indissolubly intertwined. From now on, each choice of Coriolanus will inevitably affect the girl’s possible successes or failures. Inside the arena a duel to the death will take place, but outside the arena Coriolanus will start feeling something for his tribute and will be forced to choose between the need to follow the rules and the desire to survive, whatever it takes. .
As we know, the director of the saga Francis Lawrence will return to direct the prequel. Producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will return with him . Suzanne Collins will write the treatment of the film, while Michael Arndt , screenwriter of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Hunger Games: Girl on Fire , will write the script.
