In the world of The Last of Us , September 26 marks the day when the cordyceps mushroom has reached critical mass: it is the so-called Outbreak Day .
From 2013 to 2020, Naughty Dog celebrated the franchise on Outbreak Day . In recent years the event has changed its name to The Last of Us Day ( TLOU Day ).
It is therefore not surprising that Naughty Dog has decided to take advantage of this anniversary to launch the first official trailer of the series produced by HBO :
The plot:
The Last of Us is set twenty years after the fall of modern civilization, when a fungal parasite infects humans and turns them into monsters. Joel , a man hardened by the will to survive, is hired to escort 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. It should be a simple job, but it quickly becomes a dangerous and brutal journey: together, Joel and Ellie must traverse what’s left of the United States and rely on each other to escape death.
The cast
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey lend faces to Joel and Ellie . Gabriel Luna is Tommy , Joel ‘s brother. Merle Dandridge plays Marlene , as he already did in the video game. Nico Parker lends his face to Sarah , Joel ‘s daughter.
Rounding out the cast: Jeffrey Pierce (Perry), Murray Bartlett (Frank), Con O’Neil (Bill) and Anna Torv (Tess).
Conceived by Craig Mazin (creator of Chernobyl, the sequels to The Hangover ), she wrote and produced the series with Neil Druckman , author of the video game.
The show is directed by Jasmila Žbanić ( Esma’s Secret, The Path ) and Ali Abbasi ( Shelley, Border ). The pilot episode is directed by Kantemir Balagov ( Tesnota, The Autumn Girl ).
