Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Enchanted), the composer of The Little Mermaid , has revealed to Comicbook.com why in the live action that arrived in theaters today, the song ‘ The Daughters of Triton ‘ is absent.
Has explained:
“I think the thought process was: a) we didn’t need it in this particular version. We wanted the film to start with a much more live-action feel of the ocean and meeting Ariel, and then wait a bit, make you wait until ‘ Part of Your World / The Little Mermaid ‘. And I think it was a fantastic choice, because it creates an atmosphere of anticipation and empowerment.
And part of that is also knowing that you’re adapting something that’s already very loved. So you mean: wait, wait, wait, and here it comes. And when it comes, God.”
Another song was deleted: Les Poissons sung in Italian by Vittorio Amandola .
The soundtrack of the film:
The album features new recordings of songs originally written by Menken (music) and Howard Ashman (lyrics) for the 1989 animated film, and several new original songs written by Menken to lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton, Encanto).
