THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER – COMIC-CON 2022 TRAILER AND PANEL REPORT

Amazon brought to Comic-Con 2022 The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

the series inspired by Tolkien’s work coming to Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
To the occasion was shown a new trailer:

The video allowed us to get a first look at Anson Boon , a young actor seen in Crawl and 1917 , in the role of Sauron :

The panel began with a live orchestra, led by composer Bear McCreary , who performed the music of the series.

Stephen Colbert , a big fan of the saga, then took the stage to moderate the panel, which saw the participation of showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay , who greeted the audience speaking in the Elven language. With them also some members of the cast.

Speaking of the series, the showrunners said:

It is a very human story: how far in the darkness are you willing to go to achieve good? We didn’t want to make a simple spin-off, our intent was to tell a Tolkien epic.

Speaking of the comparison with Peter Jackson ‘s cinematographic works they then added:

They are part of the daily fiber of our life… but we wanted to be part of a continuum of works inspired by Middle-earth.

As for the Dwarves of Middle-earth, JD Payne said that very often they have been the butt of jokes of all kinds, but in the show they have been taken seriously and treated with due dignity.

Charles Edwards , who plays Celebrimbor , maker of the Rings of Power in the series, spoke of the Elves as inherently unhappy, just as written by Tolkien, adding that his character could be easily manipulated.

Owain Arthur , who plays Durin IV , talked about the long make-up sessions he had to undergo every day, lasting a full three hours. Every day he was excited about it, but by the end of the shoot he felt relieved.

Sophia Nomvete talked about her role: Disa, the first dwarf woman in Tolkien’s work. She revealed that she had her audition for her two days before giving birth, the costume designers had made her costume so she could easily take it off to breastfeed.

The scenes shown

The audience was also shown scenes from the series, specifically:

A fight scene between Durin IV and Elrond , played by Robert Aramayo . Durin manages to get the better of it but it’s not clear if Elrond is that strong.

In the second clip, Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and Poppy Proudfellow (Megan Richards) find a sleeping giant in the center of a circle outside. Nori wakes him up and the fire goes out, but the flames return the moment he falls asleep again. They swear not to tell their parents what happened.

The third clip showed Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) in action. He is part of a group of slaves and is chained, dragged by orc-like creatures who have captured him. But he has the strength to grab an ax and throw himself at them.

Another clip showed Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) speaking Elvish with Elrond . An apparently very romantic moment.
Galadriel was also at the center of another particularly jaw-dropping sequence. On board a ship en route to Númenor, surrounded by a breathtaking panorama.
