If all goes well, The Matrix Resurrections would be hitting theaters later this year. Unfortunately, Lilly Wachowski, one of the co-creators of the franchise, will not return for this fourth installment and, during a recent panel of the Television Critics Association, explained why.
In Wachowski’s own words :
“We had an idea for another Matrix movie, and when we discussed it, both of our parents were in critical health. I did not want to work on something where I had previously collaborated while at the same time dealing with the loss of my parents; it was not something that caught my attention.
Lana had reasons for making Matrix 4, so I can’t speak for her, but that’s how I felt. I don’t know; maybe in the future, we will collaborate again. “
During CinemaCon, the first details of The Matrix Resurrections were revealed to us, accompanied by a new trailer behind closed doors. Keanu Reeves will be back in the starring role as Neo, accompanied by Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity.
The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters on December 16.
