Set in a luxury hotel on New Year’s Eve 1999/2000, The Palace will see the lives of employees and guests intertwined. The screenplay is written by Polanski and Jerzy Skolimowski . The director of photography is Polanski’s regular collaborator Pawel Edelman .

The Palace was announced by Paolo Del Brocco , CEO of Rai Cinema, who will produce together with Luca Barbareschi ‘s Eliseo Entertainment (interpreter for Polanski of L’offficiale e la spy , of which he was also a producer). Swiss CAB Productions will co-produce with Polish company Lucky Bob.

Roman Polanski remains a controversial figure within the film industry, accused of drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977. The director pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor, but fled to Paris after learned that the judge would impose a detention period on him. Since then, Polanski has been a fugitive from the United States, yet he continues to work permanently in Europe. Last month, a group of technicians, actors and directors criticized the production of the film on the Swiss publication Le Temps .
