The Serpent Queen is resolutely modern, darkly comical and completely unexpected. The story of Caterina De ‘Medici is perfectly in line with our selection of female narratives. We are thrilled to reveal more details of her life and her reign through Samantha’s brilliant personalization of this powerful ruler.

The Serpent Queen tells the story of the rise to power of Caterina de ‘Medici who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-lived rulers in French history. The story begins when at the age of 14, the young orphan Catherine married at the French court in the 16th century. Uncertain of her future, she must quickly learn who she can trust her, both within her personal entourage of courtiers and among members of the royal court, while she outwits anyone who underestimates her resolve. to survive at any cost.

Based on Leonie Frieda ‘s book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France , the series is written and produced by Justin Haythe ( Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow, The Lone Ranger ). Stacie Passon ( Transparent, Dickinson, Billions ) directs multiple episodes, including the first. The series is produced by Francis Lawrence ( Hunger Games: The Girl on Fire, Hunger Games: The Song of Revolt Part 1, The Hunger Games: The Song of Revolt part 2 ) and Erwin Stoff ( Matrix, 13 Hours, Edge of Tomorrow – Without tomorrow). The series is produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.
