At the base of the show is the eponymous literary saga by Jenny Han ( To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before ), also showrunner with Gabrielle Stanton . Here is the official synopsis:

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a multigenerational drama centered around a love triangle that is created between a girl and two brothers, the ever-changing relationship between mothers and their children, and the lasting power of strong female friendships. It is a coming-of-age story about love, the first breakups and the magic of a perfect summer.
