Empire has released a new image of Thor: Love and Thunder that first portrays Thor ( Chris Hemsworth ) and Mighty Thor ( Natalie Portman ) side by side.
We have long known that Jane Foster will prove herself worthy of raising Mjolnir , and thus gain the powers of the Thunder God. Taika Waititi points out that for Thor it will be a difficult news to digest:
It’s been eight years. [Jane] lived her life of hers, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and she is now dressed like you. For Thor, it’s something that I fuck with his brain.
The director also talks about how he decided to put Mighty Thor in the story:
I was writing and I was like, “Wouldn’t it be cool to put Jane back into the plot?” [But] I didn’t want Natalie to come back and play the same character as before, running around with science gear. You know, while Thor flies somewhere, she stays on Earth stamping her foot, wondering when she’ll be back. That’s boring. You have to take part in the adventure.
Waititi says that Natalie Portman has a great sense of humor, and believes it hasn’t been exploited enough in previous films, so we can expect something different in this sequel.
The release is expected for July 6 in Italian cinemas. You can see the image below.

The official synopsis
The film sees Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike any other he has ever faced: a search for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by an intergalactic killer named Gorr the Slaughterer of Gods (Christian Bale), who wants the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlisted the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer. Mjolnir, as Mighty Thor. Together, they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery behind the Vengeance of the Slaughterer of Gods, and stop him before it’s too late.
Direction and screenplay
The direction is handled by Taika Waititi , a brilliant New Zealand filmmaker who has already directed Thor: Ragnarok . The screenplay was co-written by him with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson .
The cast
The cast will include Chris Hemsworth ( Thor ), Tessa Thompson ( Valkyrie ), Jaimie Alexander ( Lady Sif ), Taika Waititi himself ( Korg ), Christian Bale ( Gorr, the Slaughterer of Gods ) and Natalie Portman ( Jane Foster ), who he will find worthy to raise Mjolnir and become Mighty Thor . There will also be Star-Lord ( Chris Pratt ) and the other Guardians of the Galaxy . Russell Crowewill be Zeus .
