George Miller ‘s new film , Three Thousand Years of Longing , will hit US theaters on August 26. MGM has now announced the opening of ticket sales with a new, short trailer, which you can see below.
The film is based on AS Byatt ‘s short story The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye , reinterpreted by Miller as an epic and highly refined fantasy. Tilda Swinton plays Alithea Binnie , a lonely academic who meets a Djinn ( Idris Elba ) while in Istanbul for a convention. The Djinn sets out to grant her three wishes in exchange for his freedom, but Lei alithea is a scholar of mythology, and she knows all too well the dangers of such an offer. The ensuing conversation in a hotel room in the Turkish metropolis leads to unexpected consequences for both of them.
Three Thousand Years of Longing was presented today at the Cannes Film Festival , out of competition. The project was announced in 2018, but filming was postponed to November 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
