Popular short video platform TikTok is testing adding a ‘dislike’ button to comments in an effort to help people “feel more in control”  over what they experience on the app.

The company reveals this new test in a blog post about its latest Community Guidelines report, revealing data on how TikTok enforces its security policies.

At the moment, TikTok has not revealed any further details about what the button will look like or how it will work, however, some users have revealed on Twitter some screenshots of a thumbs down button next to the ‘like’ button in the comments section.

The ‘I don’t like’ button has always been a controversial topic in social networks , over time the platforms have been modifying the interactions between their users.

TikTok specified that individual users will have no way of knowing if their comment has been liked or not, it seems that it will work as a kind of “like” index that will go down the comments that they dislike, but will not show a count of ‘dislikes’ ‘, similar to the YouTube switch .

“We’ve started testing a way to allow people to identify comments they think are irrelevant or inappropriate ,” the company explained. “This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comments section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement. To avoid creating ill feelings among community members or demoralizing creators.” , only the person who registered a dislike in a comment will be able to see that you have done so.”
