Let’s go back to the Twister sequel , which will be titled Twisters (yes, in the plural as Aliens ) and is in development at Universal Pictures .
It will be co-financed by Warner Bros. , but Universal is leading the project creatively.
Well, Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg – whose Amblin will produce the film with Frank Marshall – really appreciated the script of Mark L. Smith , former writer of The Revenant : his enthusiasm has therefore given a new impetus to the sequel, which he now seeks a director after the resignation of Joseph Kosinski . The latter in fact preferred a film on Formula 1 with Brad Pitt .
Among the filmmakers considered are Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi ( Free Solo ); Dan Trachtenberg ( 10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey ); and Travis Knight ( Kubo and the Magic Sword, Bumblebee ).
Sources say the Twisters producers are hoping to get Helen Hunt back, and that the story will focus on her character’s daughter with Bill Paxton ‘s . The young woman has the same “passion” as her parents: chasing hurricanes. I remind you that Paxton passed away in 2017.
The first Twister
Released in 1996 under the direction of Jan De Bont (the same as Speed and the subsequent Tomb Raider 2 ), Twister followed the vicissitudes of a shabby group of “hurricane hunters”, led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt ; the screenplay was the work of Anne-Marie Martin and Michael Crichton . The innovative special effects earned a well-deserved Oscar nomination, and the film grossed nearly $ 500 million against a budget of around $ 90.
The synopsis
Jo Harding, a young and daring American scientist, together with Dusty and Rabbit, valid and daring collaborators with their handcrafted vans, are competing with Dr. Jonas Miller, sponsored by a major company and at the forefront of expensive equipment which should allow him to collect important scientific data on the behavior of the frequent tornadoes that devastate ever larger areas of America. The forecasts have in fact announced the arrival of the most dangerous storm that has ever hit Oklahoma in the last fifty years and the two rival groups are determined to face it, to be considered as the best connoisseurs of such tremendous weather phenomena, and such as to be able to provide timely warnings to populations on the approach of tornadoes and their changing paths, helping to save many human lives. Since the ultramodern scientific, electronic and satellite technologies available to America do not yet seem able to provide precise data on the arrival of cyclones, science is still forced to rely on the human eye and “storm chasers” (hunters of storms) to be able to give significant alarms to populations. The risk of the researchers is considerable: it takes a considerable dose of reckless courage pushed to the point of endangering life. Jo is joined by her meteorologist husband Bill Harding, who had left her to pursue other duties. At the news of the arrival of the tornado, Bill reappeared with the young Melissa,
