Fresh and Swamp Maiden star Daisy Edgar-Jones will star in Twisters , the sequel to Twister helmed by Minari director Lee Isaac Chung .
Edgar-Jones is a star on the rise: she also recently starred in the series In Heaven’s Name , which came to us on Disney+ , for which she earned a Golden Globes nomination.
Twisters was born from a script by Mark L. Smith , screenwriter of Revenant , which apparently the producers liked very much, especially Steven Spielberg . The project was thus immediately put into production with the idea of starting shooting in the spring. According to rumors, Helen Hunt could reprise her role alongside a new lead, daughter of her character and that of the late Bill Paxton , co-star of the original film. This could be the role of Edgar-Jones.
The film will be co-financed by Warner Bros., but Universal is leading the project creatively. Frank Marshall , veteran producer of franchises such as Jurassic World, Indiana Jones and Bourne , but also of films such as The Color Purple and The Sixth Sense , will produce under his Kennedy/Marshall banner. The film will be supervised by Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell for Universal, and Ashley Jay Sandberg for Kennedy/Marshall.
The first Twister
Released in 1996 and directed by Jan De Bont (the same as Speed and the subsequent Tomb Raider 2 ), Twister followed the story of a shabby group of “hurricane hunters”, led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt ; the screenplay was written by Anne-Marie Martin and Michael Crichton . The groundbreaking special effects earned a well-deserved Oscar nomination, and the film grossed nearly $500 million against a $90 million budget.
