Want to send your name into space? NASA opens call for a moon of Jupiter

NASA will send the Europa Clipper probe to study Jupiter ‘s moon Europa and your name may be on it.

NASA has announced a call to send your name into space, specifically to Jupiter ‘s moon Europa .

The transport vehicle will be the Europa Clipper spacecraft , which will begin its 6-year journey in October 2024 to investigate data on the ocean and ice present on this world.

The initiative is called ‘Message in a bottle’ and it also includes a work written on papyrus called ‘Praise of the mystery: a poem for Europe’, by the poet Ada Limón.

To register and put your name, you just have to click on this link and accept the option ‘Send your name’. After entering your information as country of origin and email, you will receive a confirmation and a souvenir poster like this one.

Europa Clipper is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida in October 2024, taking six years to reach its destination. As it orbits Jupiter and makes multiple flybys of Europa , a suite of science instruments will collect data on the moon’s underground ocean, ice crust, and atmosphere.

The main objective of the mission is to discover if there is anywhere below the surface of Europ a that could support life. You’ll also seek to understand the nature of the ice sheet and the ocean beneath it , as well as learn more about the satellite’s composition and geology.

These types of initiatives are not new.

NASA has already done the same with its first Artemis mission , as well as the mission to Mars called Perseverance.

Although there is certainly no life outside of our Earth, scientists believe that these types of initiatives are interesting so that people can be interested in science and, who knows, in the future the humans of tomorrow will be able to pick up and physically see their name on these planets.
