We already know that Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will be the showrunners of Welcome to Derry , prequel series of IT.
The Illuminerdi will take care of revealing the first details. Obviously they are rumors, so let’s take them with a grain of salt.
Well, it seems that the show will be set in the sixties, and that the production is looking for a black actor in his 30s to play the protagonist: an army pilot who “is trying to bring people together in difficult times”. Casting is also underway for young actors who will play a group of friends… a sort of ante litteram Losers Club ? So it seems, judging by these leaks.
It also seems that Bill Skarsgård will return to the role of Pennywise , predictably. Not surprisingly, the plot will lead to the events of Andrés Muschietti ‘s first film , and will tell the origins of the terrible clown.
Muschietti himself , director of both IT and IT CHAPTER TWO , will serve as executive producer along with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs . The latter conceived the story of the show together with the Argentine director, who could direct the first episode if HBO Max decides to order the series.
We will keep you posted.
The success of IT
The two films based on the Stephen King novel have collectively grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide: a remarkable figure, especially considering that they were both R-rated in the United States 17 years unaccompanied).
Welcome to Derry and the others
The development of Welcome to Derry is not a great surprise, if we consider the strategies of Warner Bros. and HBO Max : the studio aims to make various shows that complement its films, in the form of spin-offs and prequels, all within larger franchises. The Peacemaker , for example, is a spin-off of The Suicide Squad , while the Penguin , Arkham Asylum and Gotham City Police Department series will be spin-offs of The Batman .
