WhatsApp will be the next Meta app to include 3D avatars for video calls.
WhatsApp continues to incorporate tools to improve communication between users, but it is governed by the rules imposed by Meta , the mega company created by the founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg to consolidate the path to the long-awaited metaverse. Because of that, many features implemented in Instagram and Messenger are starting to appear in this app, such as reactions. Now it is the turn of the avatars .
According to the specialized site WABetainfo , WhatsApp has already been integrating the transition from “profile” to “avatar” in the application in tests. “The company has been working internally on its own alternative sets of Memojis/Bitmojis since March,” the publication notes .
In this test version, WhatsApp implements a switch for the video call screen with which you can switch between face or avatar. This comes along with the possibility of sending our own stickers based on avatars thanks to an “Avatar Editor” to be integrated into the platform.
WABetaInfo mentions that there is no definite date for the arrival of this new feature, but internal tests on iOS are expected to start soon.
WhatsApp and the blurring of images
Another future implementation is focused on blurring images. WABetaInfo notes that the image editor will add an option to “blur” a part of the image without using third-party apps.
This option, included in the beta version for Android, does not have an official arrival date either. However, it is expected that it will be implemented soon, along with the drawing tools in the desktop version of WhatsApp.
