It has to do with the chat groups in the messaging app.
The WhatsApp messaging application is currently developing a new feature known as Community (‘community,’ in English), with functions that extend to current chat groups.
The service has included several references in the code of the latest beta version of its application, v2.21.21.6, to a new function known as Community, as the XDA Developers portal has warned.
Although its operation is unknown, the lines of code show that users can create communities, join them, share links to enter with other people, and edit the description or information.
Someone leaked “Community”, under development for WhatsApp. We wanted to wait for some screenshots to introduce it.
Community is a way for users to organize their WhatsApp groups better. Nothing more, it’s not something like Twitter and Facebook. Updates will be following soon…— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) October 11, 2021
WhatsApp Communities: Big Change or a Shallow Update
WhatsApp communities coexist with the current chat groups of the platform since there are lines of code that refer to both functions since they work together.
They also present a different operation to channels since participants can participate in actions such as changing the description in community settings, which only administrators can do in media.
WABetaInfo has indicated on its Twitter account that “Community” is a way to organize WhatsApp groups better. “Nothing else, it is not something like Twitter and Facebook,” reported the specialized site.
Currently, the communities function is not operational in the WhatsApp beta, and it is not present in the stable version of the messaging app.
