WhatsApp  is now ready to add a more than necessary change to the visibility of the users of its platform. Meta ‘s instant messaging apphas been working on a new feature that can replace phone numbers with usernames when you receive a message from someone who hasn’t been added to your phonebook.

According to what the WABetaInfo portal points out , this option is included in the 2.22.25.10 update of the Beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices. Initially, the feature changed phone numbers to usernames only in the message bubble in group conversations. However, with the most recent edition, the app has also extended it to the main list of chats.

A great help for WhatsApp group chats

As can be seen in the screenshot shared by the aforementioned page, the username will replace the phone number in the chat list. Thanks to this, it will be easier to know who the unknown contact is writing to without having to schedule it. The new option is especially useful in large group conversations where it can be difficult to identify unknown members. The username can also appear instead of the phone number in various sections of the app, such as the list of group participants.

Although the function has been released for some beta testers of the iOS version after installing the WhatsApp Beta 23.5.0.73 update , this does not mean that the phone number is hidden from group members because it is still visible inside the chat bubble.

In general, this update will be a very welcome change for many WhatsApp users who often have problems identifying unknown contacts in group chats. No doubt, the username feature will make it easier to manage group chats and make communication more efficient.

Other news that will come to WhatsApp

In addition to the option to change phone numbers to usernames, WhatsApp is also developing other features and tools that will reach the mainstream client of its platform soon. For example, the most recent involves the introduction of group chats with an expiration date that will be removed as soon as their life cycle is complete.

Other features include the ability to mute calls from unknown numbers, a “Newsletter” tool to broadcast information to a limited number of contacts, and an option to transcribe voice notes to text. Although we do not know exactly when they will reach the standard version of WhatsApp , the ground is already being prepared since the Beta of the application.
