Robert Downey Jr. kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the first Iron Man.

And has been the backbone of this narrative universe for the entire Infinity Saga : it is therefore no wonder that Tony Stark was tasked with save him, wiping out Thanos and his army with the Infinity Stones. Tony did not survive, and the surviving heroes are still dealing with the consequences of his sacrifice. The world we have seen so far in Phase 4 is in fact lost, devoid of Avengers , and still bewildered by the Blip.

Well, it seemed that Robert Downey Jr. had definitively moved away from the MCU , but the latest rumors claim otherwise. My Time To Shine Hello , usually reliable with his scoops, reports that the actor will return in Avengers: Secret Wars , the final film of the Multiverse Saga , due out on May 1, 2026 .

It seems that we will also see Morgan Stark in an adult version, but – if that’s true – we don’t know if she will be played by Katherine Langford , whose cameo was cut by Endgame .

Obviously it’s just a rumor, so we have to take it with the maximum benefit of the doubt. But if you want to give him credit, how could Tony Stark ‘s return be justified ? The multiverse would represent an immediate solution: Robert Downey Jr. could therefore interpret a variant of the brilliant inventor. On the other hand, the Secret Wars comic shows a new reality where elements of various parallel worlds coexist, then resulting in a single universe that brings together the characters of the Ultimate Universe and the original one. Maybe something like this will happen in the film as well, and the MCU will have a new Iron Man .

We’ll see.

Direction and screenplay

Avengers: Secret Wars will be written by Michael Waldron , the same as Loki and Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness . There has been talk of Ryan Coogler for directing, but there are no confirmations in this regard.

The previous film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty , will instead be scripted by Jeff Loveness ( Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ) and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ( Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings ). It will be released on May 2, 2025 .

The previous Avengers

The Infinity Saga has seen four Avengers movies over the span of eleven years. Joss Whedon directed the first two, The Avengers and Age of Ultron , while Anthony and Joe Russo directed Infinity War and Endgame .
